RULES

Low Country Hare Scramble
Rules and Regulations:

*Low Country Hare Scramble races are governed by the current AMA Competition Rule book and LCHS Hare Scramble Rules.

*Riders participating in LCHS events must have a current AMA membership. To purchase AMA membership visit:

*For riders who do not have a current AMA membership, renewal can also be processed on-site on race day (cash only)

Rider Safety and Equipment: 

*Guests are recommended to wear proper safety equipment while operating a motorized vehicle. 

*Motor-cross Boots and approved dot helmet are minimum requirement for racing participants

*No modifications are allowed to participant’s helmet used for the event, including no camera mounts as required by the AMA 

*Chest mounted action cameras are permitted but not recommended 

*Additional safety equipment is encouraged 

*All riders must start the race with shatterproof goggles 

*No practice riding is allowed, pit riding to and from vendors and race event are allowed at a first gear speed only (10mph max)

*Please keep it slow and respectful of others when riding to and from the race event

*All youth class racers must wear a chest protector, as required by the AMA

*Please follow AMA regulations for exhaust sound check, regulations change by motorcycle type and displacement

*No rider is allowed to carry an extra storage of gasoline other than what is in their fuel tank while racing.

*No motorized equipment are permitted on the track during the race except by race officials. Bicycles are not permitted on the course during the race. Electric mountain bikes are not allowed on the track during the race. This applies to spectators and to pit crew members. Riders will be penalized if their pit crew does not follow this rule.

*Riders may get mechanical assistance from their pit crews or spectators while on the course, but must finish the race on the SAME vehicle from beginning to end and under the machine’s own power or the physical energy of the RIDER HIM/HER SELF.

*If any rider is found to be alternating machines, their race results will be excluded from the race.

*All ATV’s must be equipped with a functional tether type mechanical killswitch device attached to the vehicle and to the rider so that the engine ignition is cut off at any time a rider becomes dismounted from the ATV.

*The rider must be large enough and mature enough to control his/her machine at all times and ride it safely. This includes stopping, starting, standing still, mounting and dismounting. The referee has the authority to disqualify a rider that cannot safely control his/her motorcycle or ATV.

*ATV machine width may not exceed 50 inches.

*Paddle tires and studded tires are prohibited.

General LCHS Rules Include the Following:

 *A first gear idle is only allowed when traveling to and from starting line, registration and vendor area. operator/ passenger recommended to ALWAYS WEAR A HELMET.

*No joy riding

*No one under the age of 16 is to operate their machine other than to and from starting line

*Once your race is over, please park your machine.

*Riders are responsible for the actions of their entire pit crew. Any unnecessary trouble caused by these individuals puts their rider at risk of disqualification or being asked to leave the current event.

*Bicycles are restricted from the race course and woods during the race(s). This includes eMTB bikes! you may bike the course the day prior to event or after all races are completed for that day with all participants off the track. 

*Attendees and participants are allowed to walk the track prior to race day and post races for that day. Attendees and participants are allowed to view the race along the track by foot only outside of designated area(s).

*A competitor who rides in a manner that endangers officials, other riders, or spectators may be subject to disqualification from the event by event officials.

*Rider contact – ramming, blocking, or any intentional contact from one rider to another rider while on the course or while on the premises during the day of the event, will be subjected to penalty to their finished time or fine determined by event official.  

*PLEASE PICK UP ALL TRASH AND PLACE IN TRASH CANS MADE AVAILABLE. TRASH BAGS ARE AVAILABLE AT Race REGISTRATION IF YOUR area(s) NEED MORE. WE WANT TO LEAVE OUR FACILITY CLEANER THAN WE FOUND IT in order to continue this fun family oriented event. We are not your parents and our staff members are not here to pick up after you. we will empty trash cans that are provided and have a dumpster onsite. please be respectful of property and landowners so we can continue this event for years to come. You bring it in, you bring it out or clean up your mess.

*If you bring pets, please secure them at your camp during the races. LCHS is not liable for pets on the track. Pets must be on a leash at all times! No exceptions to this rule! please dispose of your pets waste properly.

*Please Keep your children with you at all times. Parents/guardians are responsible for their children’s actions. If caught destroying property, you and the child may be asked to leave or permanently banned and/or financially cover damages to property. Please remember It is not safe to allow your children to walk the track without a legal guardian. Please do not allow your children to joy ride. This is against the rules and will be punished by having to park their bike at registration trailer until leaving premises during entire event. 

*Primitive camping will be available at each event. This means no power or water. Please come prepared for the amount of time of your stay, Please be courteous of others and set up your camp quietly. Campfires are not recommended but must be obtained in a approved fire pit. Quiet time 9:00pm-7:00am. All motorized toys must be shut off at dark. Please observe this so everyone can get some rest for the race the following day.

 Severe Weather Alert: 

*Events will continue regardless of weather conditions. In the event of rain or other unfavorable conditions, it may be necessary to alter the order of the event schedule, this includes but not limited to, adjusting the length of the race or stopping the program completely. Should a delay occur, every effort will be made to resume the schedule in a timely fashion if conditions improve. if conditions do not improve, ultimately resulting in a cancellation of the race, your race registration will be rolled over for the next event race.

Pit (campsite) Vehicles That Are Allowed for Use: 

*ATV, golf cart, pit bike, scooter, UTV (Max width 64″) Pit vehicles are permitted for the convenience of ADULTS (18+) ONLY and may be operated by ADULTS only. Pit vehicles must be operated responsibly and are strictly prohibited from entering the woods or accessing the race course at any time, and may not be used to carry any tools, tires, fuel cans, parts, gear, pit boards etc that can be used to assist a rider in anyway during the race. Crew members are prohibited from using pit vehicles or any licensed motor vehicle during their riders race or to access the race course by public roads.

Medical Insurance: 

*LCHS Racing does not provide medical insurance for any competitors, we urge you not to compete without it. LCHS highly encourages each and every competitor to carry or obtain their own insurance prior to competing in any LCHS race event.

*All participants must have their gate entry wrist band visible in order to register for any LCHS event. No wristband, no racing. RIDERS MUST BRING THEIR HELMET with them to registration for race.

*All participants are required to review and submit waiver/release forms with state issued I.D. 

*If participant is under the age of 18 a parent or legal guardian is required to review and submit all waiver/release forms with state issued I.D. 

 

Race Course

  •     All Race Courses will utilize ribbons and arrows to mark course
  •     Peewee and Micro Classes will follow blue arrows
  •     Youth Classes will follow green arrows
  •    Amateur Classes will follow orange arrows
  •     Pro Classes will follow red arrows

*Sections of the course will be shared utilizing all colors

*Riders may walk or ride a bicycle around track prior to racing. Only race officials are able to ride on ANY portion of the track. Only race officials are allowed to have motorized equipment ex: ATV, Motorcycle, and UTV on the track the day of the race. E Bikes are not allowed for Pit crew members. NO BICYCLES ARE ALLOWED ON THE TRACK or in the woods DURING THE RACES! foot traffic is permitted in the woods to watch the race.

*If a rider leaves the track for any reason, the rider must re enter from the exact location they exited. However, if the rider is towed out, the rider cannot re-enter the race.

*The marked course is within 20 feet of all arrows. Anytime double arrows are posted on both sides of the track, riders MUST stay between these arrows. Whenever there are added markers to the trail (ribbon, banners, stakes, etc.), rider(s) must stay between these areas as well. If a rider deviates greater than 20 feet from trail, a penalty may be assessed

 *Any LCHS course may include single trails, footpaths, roads/logging roads, hills, motocross tracks, or any type of terrain which can be ridden by a motorcycle or ATV

* Marking, cutting, tampering with or otherwise changing the course in any manner is strictly prohibited. Course modifications may only be made by a LCHS official.

*Riding on race course at any time during the event. is strictly prohibited.

*Riding motorized toys on any portion of land outside of designated areas is prohibited. anyone caught doing so will immediately be removed from property and or banned from LCHS event(s)

 *Racers will be disqualified for riding any LCHS course 7 days prior to the first day of the event, this includes electric assisted mountain bikes and mountain bikes.

   **In accordance with AMA rules, riders must not ride more than 20 feet from course marking arrows**

 

Race Start, Duration, and Scoring

*Participants must enter a class at their skill level, obtain that class for the season. The following season, the participant will be automatically moved up to the next class. In order to be eligible for end of year champion, participant must complete in 80% of the season’s races.

*The rider’s meeting takes place at the start line 15 minutes before the race begins 

*Adhesive passive transponders are used for scoring, with manual scoring backup 

*Transponders are required and are available at registration trailer for $15. please adhere to under side of helmet visor. transponders are good for 1 season.

*Transponders read the rider position and lap time at the finish line.

*Finish line will be clearly visible at the end of course. you must complete one lap to avoid “DNF” for scoring. (did not finish)

*Finish line marks the completion of a lap 

*Riders do not pass through finish line immediately after leaving the start line – they must complete one full lap to register a time for completion

*Woods check points are set up periodically along the race course to ensure riders do not cut the course; missing a woods check point is an automatic DNF.

*No competitor is allowed on the starting line until after the checkered flag has come out for the previous race. 

*Riders must line up on their assigned row with front tire at painted line.

*All races are dead engine start except for peewee and micro. ex: all engines must be off prior to green flag, rider must start his bike when green flag flies 

*Any competitor that takes off on the wrong row will be penalized for that much time from the correct row at his/her finish time as well as a timed penalty for starting on the wrong row.

*All competitors must be ready when called to the starting line. If a competitor is not ready, he/she will be given two minutes to make minor repairs. 

*Race official(s) will check off each competitor that is on the starting line, if a competitor is not found on the starting line at the time of the race, they will be issued a penalty at the end of the race.

*Early crank (before green flag) will result in penalty at Finish Line

*When the track is cleared for the start: 

*The blue flag will signal for all riders to shut down their engines

*30 seconds later the Referee will extend his arm to signal “10 Seconds” before the start of the race. At the”10 Seconds” signal, all crew members must step behind the riders and may not touch or assist the rider on the start of the race. crew members of participants should be at least 10 feet behind rider at blue flag signal 

*Between 8 and 10 seconds, the green flag will be thrown, signaling the start of the race. If rider is unable to start machine, assistance may be offered after 10 seconds.

 Riders Under the Age of 18 Years:

*This applies to PeeWee, Youth, Motorcycle and Quad riders:

*All rider participants under the age of 18 years of age must have a parent or legal guardian present AT SIGN UP to sign entry forms, Youth Release Form and Release of Waiver of Liability and Indemnity Agreement. If no parent or legal guardian is present, you must have a NOTARIZED statement from the parent giving permission to a legal adult to sign for the participant and seek medical care for the rider if necessary.

*Parent or legal guardian must come with the rider to race registration trailer at EVERY Race. No Parents/guardian, No Racing.

Scoring:

*All competitors must slow down at the scoring tent/finish line each lap in order for race official to read transponder or numbers. Any rider that does not slow down and have proper reading will be forced to come back on his/her own effort or penalized after the race.

*Have your transponder bar code on the underside of your helmet visor for proper reading, if your transponder is not properly placed then this may cause you to not be scored for the race. 

*Do not attach your transponder to metal, Do not ask officials what position you are in, because they do not keep up with your class. 

*Do not yell or use profanity towards any official or hold your bike/quad revved up. This does not get you out any faster. When leaving the scoring area, do not roost the officials intentionally. Leave in a safe manner always. 

*The scoring tent is not a pit stop. Do not stop within the track of the other competitors. Pull off the track completely if needed. Do not have pit crews throw water, hold goggles or pit boards out in this area. This is a NO PIT CREW area.

*If you hit a scoring official, you will be penalized and or disqualified.

*Do No pass before the official says so at transponder scanner location (finish line). The scanner will score each competitor in the order that they crossed the finish line ONLY. The finish line is considered the place where the flagman is waving the checkered flag.

*Once the checkered flag goes out, competitors are given a reasonable amount of time to complete their final lap. The amount of time does vary depending on the length of the course. This time frame will be a minimum of thirty minutes from start of checkered flag being thrown.

*A rider may get assistance on the track from their Pit Crew or spectators but must cross the finish line under the bike’s own power or by the rider without any other physical help.

*If a competitor is towed in from the track by a race official during an event, that competitor will not be eligible to re enter same event

*If in the referee’s opinion/ decision, has determined necessary to stop an event after 60 percent of the total distance has been covered, the race may be considered completed. Riders will be scored according to their most recent position on the lap preceding the one before the red flag. 

*Once results are posted, there will only be a twenty minute protest period. If there are any problems seen with results, this is the only time that problems will be corrected.

*Protestor must present written protest within this time period.

*Penalties will be assessed by the official only based on the severity of the offense.

 this includes track cutting caught by video footage only, must be presented with the written protest

Checkpoint Rules:

*Slow down at EACH Checkpoint – Every Lap – unless otherwise stated at Rider’s Meeting.

*The checkpoint officials will write down your number as seen on the side of your helmet.

*Pull OUT calmly from the check point, do not “roost” officials.

*The checkpoint is NOT a pit stop. Do not sit in the way of the checkpoint line. If you need medical assistance, let the first official seen know and they can get you help.

*All competitors Must stay in single file line when entering checkpoint, NO PASSING, NO MATTER WHO YOU ARE.

*If you pass through the checkpoint, an official will take your number and a penalty will be given at the end of the race. 

*If you miss a checkpoint, it is deemed as missing that lap; therefore, you will not be registered for that lap, with no time adjustment.

*If you hit a check point official, you are penalized.

Trophies, Prizes, Pay Out:

*LCHS will issue trophies to the top 3 in every class, every race, as well as top 3 overall of the race

*In order to receive a trophy, the competitor(s) must complete at least half the laps as the leader.

*To receive cash payout, you must enter one of the following classes for bikes: Pro sport aa, Pro open aa or Expert a. 

*To receive cash payout, you must enter one of the following classes for ATV: Pro aa, Pro am, Pro sport. Competitor must be age 18 or older to receive cash awards and competitor must be on lead lap for payout.

*Payout for above classes mentioned will be for top three placement at $500, $300, and $200. Competitor must be on lead lap to receive cash award.

*Top three overall finishes for each race will be recognized on the Winners podium

Points:

* Competitors must complete one lap to receive points. if the competitor does not complete at least one lap they will receive a DNF (did not finish)

 *Points will be as follows: 1st- 20, 2nd- 19, 3rd- 18, 4th- 17, 5th- 16, 6th- 15, 7th- 14, 8th- 13, 9th- 12, 10th- 11, 11th- 10, 12th- 9, 13th- 8, 14th- 7, 15th- 6, 16th- 5, 17th- 4, 18th- 3, 19th- 2, 20th- 1

*To be eligible for end of year awards competitors must complete at least 80% of the racing events for that year.

*Class championship will be determined by competitors over all points for the season. a DNF does count as a points race. 

Class Champions will receive a trophy and pay-out at the end of year banquet.

If a tie breaker occurs, the competitor with the most first place finishes wins the tie breaker, if there is a tie in first place finishes then the competitor who does the best on the last event race wins the over all championship.
